About Free QR Code Decoder
This free online QR code decoder reads QR codes from any image file. Upload a screenshot, photo, or vector file containing a QR code, and the tool will instantly extract the encoded text, URL, or data. Everything is processed locally in your browser — your images are never sent to any server.
What image formats are supported?
The decoder supports SVG, PNG, JPG, JPEG, HEIF, and HEIC image formats. HEIC files (common on iPhones and iPads) are automatically converted to JPEG before decoding, so you can use photos directly from your Apple device.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. All processing happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your images never leave your device, ensuring complete privacy and security. No data is stored or transmitted.
Can it decode several QR codes from one image?
Yes. The scanner does not stop at the first match — it keeps going until the whole image has been covered, so every QR code is reported. When more than one is found, each result is numbered and the matching code is outlined on the preview image, and you can copy a single result or all of them at once.
Why is my QR code not being detected?
The decoder automatically retries at several zoom levels, over overlapping regions of the image and with extra contrast normalisation, so small, grey or stylised codes inside a large banner or poster are usually found without cropping. If it still fails, make sure the code is not cut off, not rotated at an extreme angle and not too blurry, and try a higher resolution version of the image.
Can I decode QR codes from screenshots?
Yes! Simply take a screenshot of any QR code on your screen, save it as PNG or JPG, and upload it to the decoder. This works great for QR codes you see on websites, in emails, or in documents.
